Food Ministry

Providing nutritional food to those who most need it. These activities include:

Bread Breakers meet every Friday at New Dover to make lunches for distribution at food missions. These lunches include two sandwiches that are contributed by volunteers from New Dover UMC, Wesley UMC of South Plainfield and Centenary UMC of Metuchen along with church neighbors. The Bread Breakers Ministry started during the pandemic to assist our less fortunate and have continued since then.

Wawa drivers

New Dover facilitates collecting excess sandwiches from neighborhood Wawa convenience stores and delivering them frozen to food missions. Volunteers collect the sandwiches from the stores and then see that these foods are delivered to food distribution missions where those most needy have access to the sandwiches.

New Dover works annually with the organization Rise Against Hunger to purchase and package food packets for distribution to countries in need around the world. Each year New Dover coordinates and hosts an event to package thousands of meals sufficient to feed one person for one day. This is an "assembly line" type of event requiring many volunteers to achieve the completion of producing thousands of meals. Our next packaging day is scheduled for May 17, 2025.
