September 23
Mondays at 10:30 am
Thursdays at 7:00 pm
Mark was the earliest written gospel, therefore it is closest in time to the historical Jesus. Right away Mark begins by telling us who Jesus is, but then, 16 chapters later, ends with one of the most unexpected and controversial finishes in all of literature! In between we hear story after story of how Jesus’ own followers wrestled with his identity, often guessing and guessing wrong. But on the long journey to Jerusalem we meet a gaggle of the blind, disabled, demonically possessed outsiders who know exactly who this Jesus is! What did they have that the insiders lacked? AS insiders ourselves, what can we learn from their stories?
We will be utilizing N.T. Wright’s Mark for Everyone as a guide along the way. Classes take place on Mondays at 10:30 AM and Thursdays at 7:00 PM, starting the week of September 23rd. See you there!
NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL!
HOW TO READ THE BIBLE!!!
With Associate Pastor, Davidson Sutherland
Not just one book, the Bible is an ancient library that includes poetry, epic origin stories, murder mysteries, and saucy love music! There are stories of tragedy, hope, death, resurrection, and counter-cultural parables. Biblical writers describe their journeys- how God showed up along the way and how God will keep showing up again and again.
In our new Adult Sunday School class we will examine the breadth of scripture and ask a lot of questions like, "Why the heck did they put that in there?” Holy scriptures offer us glimpses of God but also reveal a lot about ourselves, our human experience ranging from love, death, heart ache, wandering and wondering. Join me on Sundays at 9 AM to see what God might have to say about these things! Starts September 22!
